Broome's Centre for Art & Craft
The Broome Factory was established in 2001 by Lachlan "Lachie" Fraser. His objective was to provide a place where local artists of various persuasions could exhibit their work and create a community where these artists can exchange ideas and talk directly to visitors to the gallery about their work, other contributors work and about the gallery itself.
The Broome Factory now has eleven contributors whose work is exhibited. The variety of works on show is extensive, but all are the work of artists based in Broome.
The Community
The artists who exhibit at the Broome Factory also look after the gallery and have a roster to be on hand to greet visitors to the gallery. This gives them the opportunity to explain the origins of the place and the unique set up the gallery has in the town of Broome, where art of all forms has always been an important part of the community's lifestyle. We have tour companies, such as Broome Sightseeing Tours and Red Dirt Photography, that include visits to The Broome Factory in their itinerary. More information on tours and galleries can be found at the Broome Visitor Centre which is located on Hamersley Street.
